MALT - Ranches & Rolling Hills Show Update
by Christin Coy on 5/13/2010 11:59:24 PM

For the past two days a group of us have been transforming the Nicasio Druids Hall from a dark plain looking and dimly lit space into a fantastic art gallery... "Ranches & Rolling Hills". The newly erected, well lit panels are filled with wonderful images of West Marin ranch land in a variety of styles, media, and sizes. It's a very magical transformation that takes a lot of hard work and dedication on behalf of a group of artists and MALT staff and volunteers.   MALT SHOW INFO

To me, this week of show preparation is something I look forward to every year. I get to work closely with my fellow artists, some of whom I only see once a year since they are part of the Oak Group in the Santa Barbara area. We all work as a team, building walls, cleaning and touching up, hanging lights, organizing and hanging the paintings, labeling, etc., etc. It all makes us feel very lucky to be part of such a great community of artists and to be part of the "Ranches & Rolling Hills" Art Exhibit which raises funds to help permanently preserve Marin County's farmland.

Today I received an email from the Poncia's who own the ranch in Tomales where I have painted many of their sheep over the past years. They told me that "Angel", which I painted for this years show, just had her own lamb two days ago. His name is Angelo, and you can see their picture below.

i. Think I met you a few years ago. I'm Al Poncia's sister, Jennie's daughter. I've been living with my mom, Jennie for a few years now, helping with her care, and when Al found Angel (I named her) as a baby, I took care of her for about 3 month, feeding and cleaning up after her 'cause she lived in our home. When she really starting messing up, we put her out in the corral, but she really thought she was more human than sheep, an if she'd get out, she'd literally come to the front door and knock on the door with her hoof to try and come in or plant herself on the front porch. She's been kind of a brat, but a cute one.
I found her and her baby last week and mom and I put her back in the corral and introduced her to the rest of the family. Her baby is beautiful, and she's a Great mom. Don't know if the name Angelo is going to stick though; we've been tossing around the name Lamb Chops. We'll have to have a family vote to determine his name for sure.
You're a great artist and we appreciate the special attention our sheep have received from you.
