Last week Richard and I spent five days visiting our artist friend Michele near Tahoe City, Lake Tahoe. I had never painted in the snow before, only snow capped mountain tops from a distance. Having grown up in Norway this was a very exciting adventure for me, plein air painting in the snow. I love being in the snow skiing and snow shoeing, and now painting. Cold you say? Well... at times it was just that. I was so caught up in painting that I was almost unaware of the fact that my fingers were stiff and slightly numb. Unscrewing the cap on the tube of white paint became a bit difficult. One day I had the idea of putting my warm gloves under a pair of latex gloves, what a difference that made. We did luck out with the weather most days. The sun was wonderful and warm if we stood out of the cold east wind. We painted by the Truckee River, up near Mt. Rose and down around the Lake. One afternoon we were treated to a special ride with our friends that groom the slopes at Alpine Meadows, and what a thrill ride that was!
